NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's soccer team wrapped up their two game home stand, settling for a scoreless draw against visiting Bates College on Saturday afternoon from Freeman Field.
Conn came out of the gates flying, recording three shots in the opening 7:14. Charlie Riegel (Suffield, Conn.) fired a shot high just two minutes in, before Marco Perugini (Medway, Mass.) was stopped by Isaac Kolaczkowski, and Max Haberman (San Diego, Calif.) was blocked.
The Camels continued to play on the front foot, as Max Weiss (Weston, Conn.) forced two saves from Kolaczkowski in the 13th and 17th minutes. Charlie Emery (Washington, D.C.) put a shot wide with a minute and a half remaining, before Sean Fernandez-Davila (Stow, Mass.) was stopped, as the game remained scoreless at the break.
Bates finally recorded their first shot of the afternoon two and a half minutes into the second half, but Alden Yu had his shot blocked. Five minutes later, Conn thought they found the opening goal.
A pass from a Bates defender was intercepted by Gavin Mpiana (Cape Town, South Africa) who found Haberman at the top of the box. Haberman fired a shot towards the net that deflected off a Bobcats defender and into the cage. However, after a lengthy discussion between the referees, the goal was called off, for offsides.
The Camels continued to press, looking for the opening goal. Conn recorded six shots over the final 12 minutes, with Perugini coming closest to finding the back of the net with just over a minute remaining, but he was stopped by Kolaczkowski as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Conn outshot Bates 17-5 overall, holding a 6-0 edge on shots on target, along with a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Casey Shea (Haworth, N.J.) got the start in goal facing no shots on target. Perugini and Weiss paced the Camels attack with both putting two shots on goal.
Kolaczkowski got the nod between the sticks, tallying six saves.
Conn (6-2-2, 4-2-2 NESCAC) returns to action on Tuesday evening as the Camels make the short trek to neighboring Coast Guard to take on the Bears at 6:00 p.m.
