NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 victory over Endicott College on Saturday afternoon at the Conn College Tennis Courts.
Conn set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles,
Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) and
Noa Hoshino (Tokyo, Japan) earned a 6-1 victory over Johnny Wastcoat and Eric Scalici. The No. 2 pairing of
Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) and
Anthony Chen followed with a 6-2 win against Tyler Cranfield and Spencer Smith, while
Edward Petersen (Cape Town, South Africa) and
Tucker Catalano (Duxbury, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 triumph over Jaden Elliot and Greg Noroian at No. 3.
The Camels carried that momentum into singles play, where Sohlberg, Petersen and Catalano each posted straight-set victories to secure the team win.
Sohlberg was dominant at No. 3 singles, defeating Scalici by a 6-2, 6-2 margin. Petersen added another point for Conn at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Smith. Catalano capped the Camels' scoring at No. 6 singles, rolling past Noroian, 6-0, 6-1.
Endicott picked up its two points at the top of the singles lineup. Wastcoat battled to a three-set victory over
Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 1-6, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Cranfield edged Hoshino in a tight match, 7-6, 6-4.
Premkumar also battled through a competitive contest at No. 2 singles, holding off Elliot via a third-set 10-point tiebreak. Premkumar took the opening set, 7-5, before Elliot responded with a 7-6 win in the second.
Conn (2-0 overall) will wrap up the fall season at Clark University on Saturday, October 10 at noon.
