BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Connecticut College men's soccer team scored three goals in 2:16 in the second half, defeating host University of New England 3-0 on Saturday afternoon from Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Conn dominated the contest, limiting UNE to just one shot attempt through the 90 minutes. The Camels were the closest to opening the scoring in the first 45, but Marco Perugini (Medway, Mass.) struck the crossbar at 26:52 as the game remained scoreless at the break.
Conn upped the pressure to start the second half, looking to get on the board, firing off two shots in the opening five minutes. However, the Camels finally broke through at 52:18. Perugini worked his way into the box, stepping around a Nor'easters defender, putting a ball to the center of the box, where Charlie Emery (Washington, D.C.) fired home to make it 1-0.
Just 1:21 later, Conn doubled the advantage. Perugini played an over-the-top through ball to Devin Kellan (Greenwich, Conn.) who first-timed a shot that snuck through Landon Dominski to make it 2-0. The Camels added one more goal, just 55 seconds later, as Perugini played a pass down the sideline to Jayden Fokuo (Chicago, Ill.) whose shot went in off the far post to make it 3-0.
Conn continued to put UNE under pressure, but that was all the scoring the Camels needed, as Conn earned the 3-0 win.
Conn outshot UNE 18-1 overall, including 8-0 on shots on goal and 8-0 on corner kicks.
Connor Smith (Columbia, S.C.) picked up the win in goal, facing no shots on cage. Perugini paced the Camels attack with three assists, while Emery, Fokuo, and Kellan all added one goal.
Dominski got the start in net, finishing with three saves in 72 minutes, while Jay Weingarten closed out the contest making two saves.
Conn (8-2-2, 4-2-2 NESCAC) closes out non-conference action tomorrow as the Camels take on Husson at 2:00 p.m. in Bangor, Maine
