Field Hockey Drops Season Finale to #11 Wesleyan

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College field hockey team ended the regular season with a 3-0 setback against No. 11 Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening at Silfen Field.

Wesleyan's Brooke Miner had a hand in all three goals, scoring on a pair of first-half penalty strokes and assisting a tally by Leila Feldman in the second. Goalie Keira O'Flynn made eight saves to record the shutout as the Cardinals improved to 10-5 overall (5-5 NESCAC).

The visitors got on the scoreboard just 9:40 into the contest when a shot by Emily Smith drew a penalty stroke at the goal line. Miner stepped up to the spot for the attempt and buried it into the top-left corner of the cage for the game's first goal.

Smith also drew the second penalty stroke in the second quarter, weaving through Conn's defense with some fancy stick work before getting tripped in the scoring area. Miner once again took the stroke and scored into the near identical spot for the 2-0 advantage.

Wesleyan added its final goal off a penalty corner with 4:42 left in the third quarter. Miner threaded a pass across the front of the goal to Feldman, who quickly swept it into the cage for the only tally of the half.

Conn goalie Katie Dickson (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished with six saves in the loss. Sadie Gearan (Lynnfield, Mass.) paced the Camels with three shots on goal while Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, N.J.) and Eliza Farwell (Lee, N.H.) had two apiece.

Conn ended the season with an overall record of 6-9 (1-9 NESCAC), which included a 5-0 mark in non-conference play for the second straight season.
