NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's hockey team fell to #2 Hamilton 4-0 on Saturday afternoon from Dayton Arena, as the Camels celebrated senior day.
The opening period was a back-and-forth affair as both squads put shots towards goal. Kellen Beauton (Colchester, Conn.) and Aksel Reid were both sharp early, as the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.
The physicality picked up in the middle frame, but Hamilton struck first. Max Bulawka took a pass from Jacob Ierfino to make it 1-0 at 6:31. Five and a half minutes later, the Continentals doubled the advantage on a Bulawka power play tally. Conn upped the pressure down the stretch of the period, but were unable to cut the deficit, trailing 2-0 heading to the third.
Hamilton opened the third period with two early power plays and pushed the lead to 3-0 at 3:17 on Bulawka's third goal. The lead extended to 4-0 just two minutes later on a Jackson Krock power play marker.
The Camels continued to battle and earned two power plays late in the game. Conn was able to put some quality chances together, but were unable to solve Reid as the Camels fell 4-0.
Hamilton outshot Conn 34-18, while Conn held a 38-30 edge on face-off wins.
Beauton got the start in goal, finishing with 30 saves. Arty Mirante (Garden City, N.Y.) led Conn with five shots on goal, while Will Lawrence (Bethesda, Md.) added four. Both Matt Lewis (Pembroke, Mass.) and Mirante won 10 face-offs as Conn went 0-2 on the power play and 4-7 on the penalty kill.
Reid got the win in goal, stopping all 18 shots. Bulawka led the way with three goals, while Devon De Vries added three assists. Hamilton finished 2-2 on the penalty kill and 3-7 on the power play.
Conn (9-12-1, 5-10-1 NESCAC) heads out on the road for the final time, as the Camels open up a two-game swing through Maine on Friday night at Bowdoin, with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m.
