Women's Hockey Falls to Salve 2-1 on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team dropped their season finale, falling to visiting Salve Regina 2-1 on Saturday afternoon from Dayton Arena.

Salve started quickly, opening the scoring just 4:03 into the contest. Grace Dumond played a puck out to center that Caroline Batchelder picked up, going in on a breakaway and scoring to put the Seahawks in front.

Salve had a chance to double the advantage two and a half minutes later, earning a power play, but Conn shut down any chances for the Seahawks. Conn grew into the remainder of the period, but was unable to get on the board, trailing 1-0 after one.

The Camels controlled play in the middle period, and had a good opportunity to tie the game earning a five-on-three power with six and a half minutes remaining. During the advantage, Conn put eight shots on goal, but were unable to beat Taylor Hannafan, heading to the third down 1-0.

The Camels continued to push during the final period, and eventually found the tying goal at 7:30. With a delayed penalty coming to Salve Regina, Emma Peterson (Westwood, Mass.) fed a pass to Sofia Donnelly (Ringwood, N.J.), who fired home to make it 1-1.

However, with just over three and a half minutes remaining, the Seahawks retook the lead as Jennifer Drevitch's point shot snuck through to make it 2-1. Conn pushed and pulled Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) for the extra attacker, but was unable to tie the score, falling 2-1.

Conn outshot Salve 37-20, while holding a 20-18 on face-off wins.

Jillian Wexler (Plainsboro, N.J.) got the start in goal, making 12 saves in the first 29 minutes, before Galizio closed out the game with six saves. Donnelly tallied the lone goal, while Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn.) and Peterson picked up the assists. Christine Oar (Scituate, Mass.) and Serena Seiple (Wilmette, Ill.) both won six face-offs as Conn went 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-3 on the power play.

Hannafan got the win in net, stopping 36 shots. Batchelder led the way with a goal and an assist, as Drevitch added the second goal, and two other Seahawks notched one assist. Salve went 0-2 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.

Conn's season comes to a close with an 8-14-2 record overall and a 3-12-1 mark in NESCAC play.
