ORLANDO, Fla. — The Connecticut College men's tennis team earned the opening doubles point but came up just short in singles as Calvin University rallied for a 4-3 win on Friday morning at the USTA National Campus.
The Camels started fast by taking courts one and three in doubles.
Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) and
Noa Hoshino (Tokyo, Japan) delivered a 6-3 win at the top spot, and
Kristian Brondmo (Haslum, Norway) with
Nikolai Kahrs (Oslo, Norway) closed out a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Calvin answered with four straight-sets victories on the top four singles courts to clinch. Rodrigo Alipio topped
Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1, followed by wins from Caleb Bartels at No. 2, Felipe Sartori at No. 3, and Diego Castellanos at No. 4. The Camels battled to the end, securing points at the bottom of the lineup as
Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 and
Edward Petersen (Cape Town, South Africa) prevailed 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.
Conn (2-6 overall) also faced Midland University on Friday afternoon, but results were unavailable at time of publication. The Camels will next take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Franklin and Marshall College on Sunday, March 15.
