Men's LAX Comes up Short vs. Colby

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-4 decision against Colby College on Saturday afternoon in a NESCAC clash at Silfen Field.

After falling behind early, the Mules scored 10 unanswered goals to take control of the game. Daniel O'Connor led the attack with five goals and an assist while Eli Chilicki chipped in four scores and a helper. Goalie Will Heisler turned away 10 shots as Colby improved to 3-5 overall (1-4 NESCAC).

Liam Horkan (Malden, Mass.) and Graydon Diamond (New Canaan, Conn.) each finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Camels. Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) and Lorenzo Vogliano (New York, N.Y.) also added tallies, and goalies Patrick Hogan (Wyckoff, N.J.), Joey DeMarzo (Madison, N.J.) and Nick Schiliro (Centerport, N.Y.) combined to make nine saves.

The Camels fell behind 2-0 following unassisted goals by Drew Gannon and O'Connor in the opening 3:28, but a strike by Vogliano cut the deficit in half with 3:39 left in the quarter. Conn then took the lead behind a pair of scores in the final minute of the period, getting a man-up tally by Rainville with 55 seconds to go and a snipe from Horkan with three ticks left on the clock.

Diamond gave Conn a 4-2 advantage with an unassisted effort in the opening minutes of the second quarter. However, Colby scored three times before the halftime horn to take a 5-4 lead into the intermission.

The second half belonged to the Mules, who scored two goals in the third period and added five more in the fourth. O'Connor scored three goals after the break while Chilicki added a pair.

Hayden Carpenter (Baltimore, Md.) and Chris Travers (Mill Valley, Calif.) recorded four ground balls apiece for the Camels. Max Garro (Vista, Calif.) also had a solid day at the face-off spot, going 11-for-18 while scooping up three ground balls.

Conn (4-4 overall, 0-4 NESCAC) will next host Trinity College on Wednesday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m.
