NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Connecticut College men's tennis team earned its first victory of the spring, sweeping Nichols College by a 7-0 final on Sunday afternoon at Luce Field House.
The Camels took all three doubles courts to secure the opening point and then rolled through singles without dropping a match. It marked Conn's second shutout of the season, with the other coming against Endicott in the fall.
The Camels picked up 6-3 wins at both No. 1 and 3 doubles.
Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) and
Noa Hoshino (Tokyo, Japan) teamed for their third win of the season at the top spot, while the duo of
Edward Petersen (Cape Town, South Africa) and
Tucker Catalano (Duxbury, Mass.) played together for the first time.
Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) and
Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.) made it a clean sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Conn carried the momentum into singles action, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Agarwal set the tone at the top of the ladder, winning his opening set in a tiebreak before breezing through the second. Premkumar coasted at No. 2 while Sohlberg dropped only two games at No. 3, and
Kristian Brondmo (Haslum, Norway) and
Gavin Anderson (Avon, Conn.) sewed up wins at No. 5 and 6, respectively. Hoshino capped the sweep with a gritty victory at No. 4, taking the deciding match tiebreak after splitting the first two sets.
Conn (3-9 overall) will next host Trinity College on Saturday, April 4 at 10:00 a.m.
