Women's Water Polo Competes at CWPA at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Connecticut College women's water polo team returned to conference action, dropping all four games in their second CWPA weekend of the season.

GAME 1: Augustana 15, Conn 8

The opening quarter was back and forth, as Augustana struck first. Brooke Brandenburger (Sacramento, Calif.) responded for Conn, before the Vikings notched the next three goals to go in front 4-1. The Camels came straight back, as Emma Luna (Wahiawa, Hawaii) and Sarah Nagel (Honolulu, Hawaii) cut the deficit to 4-3 after one.

Juno Aselton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tied the game early in the second quarter. Augustana jumped back in front 5-4, but Luna answered back for Conn. However, the Vikings tallied the final two goals of the quarter to lead 7-5 at the break.

Augustana opened the second half with two goals to push the lead to 9-5. Luna ended the run, but Vikings recorded two of the final three goals of the quarter, with the Camels goal coming from Kendall Halfacre (Aurora, Calif.), to put Augustana in front 11-7. The Vikings scored four goals to start the fourth quarter, before Aselton, notched the final goal of the contest, as Conn fell 15-8.

GAME 2: Macalester 15, Conn 10

Macalester started quickly, jumping out to a 2-0 lead just three minutes in. Nagel answered for Conn, but the Scots scored the final two goals of the quarter to lead 4-1 after one. Macalester pushed the lead to 6-1, before Conn tallied two of the final three goals, with markers coming from Luna and Maddie Baybeck (Ann Arbor, Mich.) to trail 7-3 at the half.

The Camels roared back in the third quarter, outscoring the Scots 5-2 in the frame to cut the deficit to 9-8. During the frame, Luna added three goals, while Brandenburger and Halfacre also found the back of the net. Melia Lorch (Encinitas, Calif.) tied the game at nine early in the fourth, but Macalester ended the game on a 6-1 run, with the final Conn goal coming from Brandenburger, as the Camels fell 15-10.

GAME 3: Carthage 15, Conn 10

Carthage started quickly, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. Conn answered back with four goals in the second quarter, with Aselton tallying a hat trick, with Nagel adding the fourth. However, Carthage found the back of the net six times in the frame to lead 9-4 at the break.

The second half was back-and-forth, as both teams scored three times in both the third and fourth quarters. For the Camels, Aselton added three more goals over the final 16 minutes, as Lorch, Luna, and Jada Keen (Kealakekua, Hawaii) added the other markers, as Conn fell 15-10.

GAME 4: Austin 12, Conn 8

Austin struck twice in the opening three minutes, before Aselton got Conn on the board at 4:34. The Roos answered back a minute and a half later to lead 3-1 after one. The Camels struck three times in the second quarter, with Luna finding the back of the net twice, while Baybeck added the third. However, Austin scored four times to take a 7-4 advantage into the break.

Austin pushed the lead to 9-4, before Conn ended the third quarter with two of the final three goals, as Luna and Nagel made it 10-6 heading to the fourth. Both sides scored twice in the final quarter, as the Camels got a goal a piece from Luna and Grace Isola (San Mateo, Calif.), as Conn came up short 12-8.

Conn (2-8, 2-6 CWPA) wraps up the regular season on Thursday as the Camels host Wheaton at 6:00 p.m. in Lott Natatorium for senior day.
