HARTFORD, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's lacrosse team continued conference action falling to No. 17 Trinity 19-1 from Robin L. Sheppard Field on Wednesday night.
Trinity started fast, jumping out to a 5-0 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Bantams pushed the lead to 7-0 on back-to-back free-position goals, before a tally from Sarah Marvin in the final minute had Trinity in front 8-0 after one.
The Bantams pushed the lead to 10-0 with 6:49 to play, before Conn finally got on the board. Hannah Prescott (North Attleboro, Mass.) found a cutting Kate Coughlin (Reading, Mass.) who fired home to make it 10-1. Trinity beat the buzzer with a goal from Grace Denious to lead 11-1 at the break.
Trinity struck early in the third quarter, scoring twice in the opening three and a half minutes to extend the lead to 13-1. The Bantams added two more goals in the period, taking a 15-1 lead into the fourth.
Trinity pushed the lead to 17-1 three minutes into the final frame, on back-to-back free-position tallies. The Bantams notched two more goals in the dying minutes, to come away with the 19-1 win.
Trinity outshot Conn 32-4, while holding a 13-9 edge on draw controls.
Ava Virga (Watertown, N.Y.) got the start in goal, finishing with five saves. Coughlin tallied the lone goal for Conn, while Prescott added an assist.
Defensively, Conn scooped up 16 ground balls, with Emma McDonnell (Stevenson, Md.), Hannah Merritt (Cheshire, Conn.), Suzie Smith (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), and Kate Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) all picking up two. Elizabeth Gill (Hingham, Mass.) won a team-high two draws, while McDonnell and Merritt both forced two turnovers.
Alison MacDougall got the start in goal, making no saves in the first half, before Karenna Chader closed out the game with two two saves. Kelsey Restivo led the way with six points on five goals and one assist, while 12 other Bantams notched at least one point.
Conn returns home on Saturday as the Camels host No. 2 Tufts at 1:00 p.m. on Silfen Field for senior day.
