Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's water polo team wrapped up the regular season with an impressive 15-6 win over Wheaton on Thursday night from Lott Natatorium.
Conn came roaring out of the gates jumping out to a 6-0 lead, six minutes into the opening quarter. Emma Luna (Wahiawa, Hawaii) tallied the first goal at 6:26, before Ainsley Cornwall (San Mateo, Calif.) made it 2-0, 40 seconds later.
Luna added two more goals, while Kendall Halfacre (Aurora, Colo.) and Grace Isola (San Mateo, Calif.) both added a marker. Wheaton beat the buzzer at the end of the quarter to cut the deficit to 6-1 after one.
The Lyons struck first in the second quarter off a tally from Claudia Gagne, but the Camels answered with a goal apiece from Melia Lorch (Encinitas, Calif.) and Anna Taylor (Pleasanton, Calif.) to lead 8-2 at the break.
Conn put the game to bed with a dominant third quarter, outscoring Wheaton 6-2 in the frame to lead 14-4 heading to the fourth. The Camels got two goals from both Juno Aselton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Sarah Nagel (Honolulu, Hawaii), while Maddie Baybeck (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Brooke Brandenburger (Sacramento, Calif.) each chipped in one.
The scoring slowed down in the final frame, as the Lyons cut the deficit to 14-6 with five and a half minutes remaining. However, Aselton added one more goal for the Camels, as Conn picked up the 15-6 victory on senior day.
Conn (3-8, 2-6 CWPA) returns to action next Friday, as the Camels open up CWPA Championship action against Macalester at 11:30 a.m. in Norton, Mass.
