MEDFORD, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's soccer team returned to conference action, playing to a scoreless draw with No. 18 Tufts University on Saturday afternoon from Bello Field.
The opening half of the contest was tightly contested as both squads were feeling each other out. Tufts recorded the first two shots of the game, with one being blocked and the other going high. Devin Kellan (Greenwich, Conn.) tallied Conn's first shot of the day, but his effort went wide left.
The Jumbos put the only effort on target in the first 45 minutes, as Casey Shea (Haworth, N.J.) made a save on Ethan Jett. The Camels had one more look in the half, but Marco Perugini (Medway, Mass.) had his shot blocked as the game was scoreless at the half.
Tufts started the second half on the front foot, recording five shots in the first 10 minutes, but none of the Jumbos' chances found their way on the cage. Max Weiss (Weston, Conn.) put Conn's first shot on goal, but the effort was stopped by Nikola Antic.
The Jumbos answered with a chance by Alex Johnson, but Shea was again up to the challenge. The Camels attack came close in the final minutes to opening the scoring, putting three shots on goal from 84:08 to 85:46. Dylan Hoke (Westport, Conn.), Perugini, and Kellan were all denied by Antic, as Conn came away with the 0-0 draw.
Tufts outshot Conn 12-6 overall and held a 7-1 edge on corner kicks, while the Camels held a 4-2 advantage on shots on goal.
Shea got the nod between the sticks, finishing with two saves. Four Camels tallied one shot on goal, while Kellan and Perugini led the way with two shot attempts each.
Antic got the start in goal, recording four saves. Jett and Johnson led the Jumbos as both notched one shot on target.
Conn wraps up the weekend road trip tomorrow afternoon as the Camels take on Colby College at 2:00 p.m. in Waterville, Maine.
