PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team returned to action for three games at Brown over the weekend, hanging tough in all three but ultimately dropping all three contests.

GAME 1: Brown 16, Conn 8

Conn opened the weekend against host Brown, with the Bears jumping out to a 5-0 lead with two and a half minutes left in the opening quarter. Conn got on the board at 2:12, as Jeffrey Harrington (San Diego, Calif.) converted on a power play opportunity. Brown added one more goal later in the quarter to lead 6-1 after one.

The scoring slowed down in the second quarter, as the teams combined for just three goals. The Camels struck first in the frame, as Ethan Hipsky (Glastonbury, Conn.) found the back of the cage just 43 seconds in. However, Brown responded with the other two goals of the frame to lead 8-2 at the break.

Jack Dillon (Philadelphia, Pa.) opened the scoring for Conn in the second half, before two straight goals from the Bears pushed the advantage to 10-3. The Camels responded with the final three goals of the period, as Hipsky, Zach Dixon (Wayne, Pa.), and Laird Welch (Carmel, Calif.) cut the deficit to 10-6 heading to the fourth.

The teams traded the first four goals of the final frame, as Dixon and Andrew Rose (Dresher, Pa.) scored for Conn, as the Camels trailed by four with six minutes to play. However, Brown ended the game with the final four goals to come away with the 16-8 win.

GAME 2: JHU 16, Conn 9

Conn returned to action in the nightcap on Saturday taking on conference foe Johns Hopkins in a non-conference matchup. The Blue Jays got on the board first three minutes in, but Conn answered with back-to-back goals from Cormac Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Rose to lead 2-1. Hopkins responded with the final four goals of the period to lead 5-2 after one.

The Blue Jays took control in the second quarter, outscoring Conn 4-1 in the frame. Hopkins scored early to push the lead to 6-2, before Stevens ended the run with six minutes left. The Blue Jays ended the quarter with three more goals to lead 9-3 at the break.

Stevens found the back of the net just over a minute into the period, but Hopkins responded with three straight goals to extend the lead to 12-4. The teams traded the final four goals of the frame, with Benjamin Turner (Bellaire, Texas) and Hipsky both scoring as the Camels trailed 14-6 heading to the fourth.

Conn scored the first two goals of the final frame, with Stevens and Keegan Kosiba (Birmingham, Mich.) both connecting to cut the lead to 14-8. Hopkins answered with back-to-back tallies, before Hipsky notched the final goal of the night, as the Camels fell 16-9.

GAME 3: MIT 18, Conn 13

Conn returned to the pool on Sunday morning for their final game of the weekend against MIT. The Engineers started quickly, jumping out to a 2-0 lead just two minutes in. Thomas McDonough (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) got Conn on the board, before Jesse Ellis (Fresno, Calif.) evened the score at 4:46. MIT jumped back in front, but Stevens tied the game at three, before a late goal from the Engineers had MIT in front 4-3 after one.

The Engineers took control in the second quarter, outscoring Conn 7-2 in the frame. MIT Scored the first five goals of the frame to push the lead to 9-3. Dillon got the Camels back on the board at 2:25, before the Engineers notched a goal 11 seconds later. Bruno Beznos (Boca Raton, Fla.) made it 10-5, but a late goal from MIT, had the advantage at 11-5 heading into the break.

The Engineers opened the second half, with three of the first four goals, with the lone Conn goal coming from Kosiba, making the score 14-6. Rose and Stevens went back-to-back for the Camels, but MIT answered with the last two goals to take a 16-8 advantage to the fourth.

Conn started the fourth quarter on the front foot, tallying three of the first four goals. Kosiba, Stevens, and Welch each scored once, while MIT added another goal to make it 17-11. The Engineers pushed the lead to 18-11, before Ellis notched the final two goals of the Contest as the Camels fell 18-13.

Conn (3-8) returns to action on Saturday, October 10 as the Camels travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on Iona at 5:00 p.m.
