"During a visit to Connecticut College, I make a point to tell my recruits and their families one fact. 'It's HARD to be a Camel.' Without fail, I get a reaction to that statement. It is my way of making their visit to our beautiful campus real. When you stand on the landing of the fitness center and look out over the turf and Thames River, what's not to like? When you peer out from the steps of Blaustein, which to me, is one of the most picturesque views on the East Coast, what's not to like? It is easy to see yourself in a Camel uniform, as you look down the Green, and out onto Long Island Sound! However, when you play in the NESCAC, which is the most competitive conference in Division III, there are no easy days. If you think your time here will be easy, you are in the wrong place. Our job as educators is to challenge you on the pitch and in the classroom. It doesn't mean we can't have fun, or we won't smile ... but it won't be easy. An athlete always thinks that losing a game is really hard on them and their team. Not even close! Losing is easy, try winning! Winning is hard, and that is why it is hard to be a Camel. We win, because to be a women's soccer player at Connecticut College, you have to be selfless, mentally tough, a dedicated student, a great teammate, and incredibly hard working in the weight room and on the pitch. One Camel!"
