Jess Walsh begins her first season as an assistant field hockey coach at Connecticut College in 2020. She is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the program with an emphasis on overseeing the training and development of the team’s defense and goalkeepers.
Walsh comes to Connecticut College from Stonehill, where she served as a volunteer assistant coach and helped guide the Skyhawks to an 11-6 ledger overall and an 11-3 mark in Northeast-10 Conference action. In this position, she primarily conducted and implemented practice plans, game strategy, recruiting, and overseeing defensive tactics and strategies. She also assisted with film breakdown and with the management of the team’s social media accounts.
Furthermore, Walsh has coached at the club level as well as at numerous camps and clinics. This includes being a USA Field Hockey Futures Program Level I Coach for Region 3 (Northeast) in 2016 as well as a coach for the Seacoast United Field Hockey Club from 2013-17.
As a collegiate student-athlete, Walsh lettered as a defender with the UMass Lowell River Hawks between 2012 and 2016 when the program was transitioning to Division I status with membership in the America East Conference. She was a regular starter every year of her career and finished her tenure with six defensive saves to go along with eight points on three goals and two assists. Walsh, who was selected and participated in USA Field Hockey’s High Performance program in 2015, also captained the River Hawks during her senior campaign.
A native of North Easton, Massachusetts, Walsh was a standout field hockey player on the scholastic level at Oliver Ames High School. She also lettered in lacrosse, was among the top shot putters in the state, and she competed in horseback riding. The versatile athlete earned her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, with concentrations in Psychology and Political Science, from UMass Lowell in 2019.
