Emily Mauro recently completed her first year as a member of the Camels’ coaching staff in 2019-20 and is entering her first fall as an assistant with the women's cross country team. She is responsible for assisting Ned Bishop with all aspects of the women's cross country program in the fall before overseeing the training and development of the men's and women's sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, pole vaulters, and multi-event athletes in track & field during the winter and spring seasons.

Mauro comes to Connecticut College after most recently serving as the full-time Athletic Trainer at South Doyle High School in Knoxville, Tennessee while also assisting the track & field team as the vertical jumps coach. Prior to working at South Doyle, Mauro served as an assistant coach for the Knoxville Track and Field Club where she assisted in the implementation of practices for adult distance runners.

Mauro earned her master’s in Kinesiology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2019 and specialized in Sport Psychology and Motor Behavior. She studied coaching the pole vault under James Bemiller and put that study into practice with Tim Mack, who was an Olympic gold medalist in 2004.

While earning her degree, Mauro worked as a mental performance consultant for South Doyle High School and The University of Tennessee’s ROTC program. Mauro believes in a holistic approach to coaching and brings knowledge in academic development from her time as a mentor and tutor for student athletes at the University of Tennessee and as a graduate assistant for the Student Success Center, where she focussed on programming for first-generation students.

A native of Northboro, Massachusetts, Mauro competed collegiately as a pole vaulter and high jumper at Merrimack College. She placed as high as third in the pole vault at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships and was also named a USTFCCCA All-East Region selection in her premier event during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Mauro earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Merrimack in 2017 and a master’s in Kinesiology from Tennessee in 2019. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), USA Track & Field (USTAF), the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and she also holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification as well as CPR and AED certifications.
