Women's Soccer Falls to Hamilton in Conference Home Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team returned home, falling to Hamilton 2-0 on Friday afternoon from Freeman Field.

Conn started on the front foot, recording two shots in the opening four minutes. Claire Chace (Bristol, R.I.) was denied by Olivia Connolly at 2:24, before Danica Zicha (Belmont, Mass.) was stopped at 4:04. However, it was Hamilton that opened the scoring at 6:58.

Diana Baffor struck the crossbar with the rebound falling right to the foot of Lila Sullivan who made it 1-0. The Continentals remained on the attack after the opening goal, forcing four saves from Maia Kafer (Philadelphia, Pa.) over the next 15 minutes. The Camels tried to answer back with a chance from Zicha, but her effort went wide.

Hamilton doubled the advantage just three and a half minutes from the halftime break. Sullivan took advantage of a loose ball beyond the top of the box, firing it home to put the Continentals in front 2-0 at the break.

Hamilton continued to put pressure on Conn, but Maia Kafer was able to add four more saves, keeping the deficit at just two. The Camels tried to get back into the game, and had a good look with just under six minutes remaining, but Colette Iwakoshi (Austin, Texas) was stopped by Connolly, before the clock ran out on Conn's comeback attempt, falling 2-0.

Hamilton outshot Conn 17-4 overall, including 10-3 on shots on target, while Conn held a 4-3 edge on corner kicks.

Kafer got the start in goal, finishing with eight saves. Three Camels recorded one shot on goal, while Zicha led the way with two total efforts.

Connolly picked up the win in net, making three saves, while Sullivan led the way, scoring both goals for the Continentals.

Conn (3-3-1, 1-3-1 NESCAC) returns heads back out on the road for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night, as the Camels take on Johnson and Wales at 7:30 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
