Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.—Cathy Higgins (West Hartford, Conn.) headed in a crossing pass from sister Annie Higgins with just 25 seconds remaining to lift the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Bates College on Tempel Green Saturday.
The Camels even their record at 3-3-2 and are 1-2-1 in the NESCAC. The Bobcats fall to 2-6-1 with a 1-5-1 mark in league action.
In her return to the pitch from injury, senior Aina Torres (Barcelona, Spain) sparked the Camels in their comeback victory with a goal in the 40th minute of action. Morgan Cowie-Haskell (South Marshfield, Mass.) assisted on the equalizer with a perfectly place free kick.
"It was awesome to be back out there today," Torres said. "We are a good team and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish down the stretch."
Bates College sophomore Leah Humes (Beaconsfield, Quebec) opened the scoring with a goal in the 25th minute of action.
Connecticut College rookie net-minder Bella Hall (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made five saves in the triumph. Anabel Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) had three saves for the visitors.
"Our energy and intensity was there today," Connecticut College junior tri-captain Astrid Kempainen said. "We carried momentum for the whole second half today."
The Camels held a 13-to-10 advantage in shots while enjoying a 6-to-2 edge in corner kicks.
