Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.-(Dave Geringer, UMD) The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team hosted Connecticut College, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Sunday afternoon. The Camels defeated the Corsairs, 2-1.
With the game tied 1-1, Connecticut College scored the game deciding goal when senior forward Billy Hawkey (Pennington, N.J.) netted his second score of the contest. The goal was scored with 11:10 left in regulation and was assisted by freshman forward Christian Egglin (Barrington, R.I.).
In the first half, UMass Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead when senior forward Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal) scored an unassisted goal with 21:33 left.
The Camels tied the game with 27:11 left in the second half when freshman forward Ibrahim Mutala (Accra, Ghana) assisted Hawkey on his first of two goals.
Connecticut College out shot the Corsairs 13-11. The Camels' senior goalkeeper, Max Nichols (Mill Valley, CA), recorded 12 saves, while UMass Dartmouth's freshman goalkeeper Andrew Deane (Woburn, MA/Woburn HS) had seven.
The Camels improved to 2-0-0 with the victory, while the Corsairs fell to 1-1-0 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Daniel Webster Wednesday. Connecticut College will visit Middlebury next Saturday.
