Amherst College 3, Connecticut College 2 Johnson Buries 15 Kills, Hits .484 for Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Amherst College volleyball earned a 3-2 come from behind victory against Connecticut College in a grueling battle of two NESCAC powers played at Luce Field House Friday night. 

The set scores were 25-27, 21-25, 28-26, 25-18 and 15-12 in favor of the Lord Jeffs.

Amherst, ranked #5 in New England, improved its record to 15-4 (6-1 NESCAC) with its seventh straight win. The Camels, ranked #14 in New England, had their impressive seven match winning streak suspended and fell to 10-8 with a 4-3 record in conference action.

Sophomore Maggie Danner (Newport Beach, Calif.) erupted with 19 kills, five blocks and four digs to lead the Lord Jeffs in the triumph.  Marialexa Natsis (Los Angeles, Calif.) chipped in with 10 kills and six blocks for Amherst.  Katie Warshaw (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Kelci Keeno (Honolulu, Hawaii) both had 13 digs for the winning side.

Junior setter Nicole Carter (Irvine, Calif.) dished out 36 assists for the victors.

Connecticut College rookie right side hitter Sam Hunter (Palos Verdes, Calif.) buried 18 kills while adding three aces and two digs for the hosts. Ella Johnson (Seal Beach, Calif.) tallied 15 kills with no errors on 31 swings to hit an impressive .484 in the match. Caroline Martin (Palo Alto, Calif.) finished with a match-high 20 digs and eight kills.

Sophomore setter Emily Arterbury (Austin, Texas) distributed 50 assists for Connecticut College in the contest.
