ECSU 88, Connecticut College 60 Messier Nets 16 Points for Camels

WILLIMANTIC, Conn.. --The Eastern Connecticut State University men's basketball team held Connecticut College to one field goal in building an 18-point lead in the first 5:20 and were never challenged in an 88-60 non-conference victory Monday night at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

Playing its sixth game in the first ten days of the season, Eastern Connecticut State University (5-1) stopped Connecticut College (2-2) on 33.9 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers in the win. Led by junior guard Trachone Preston (Enfield, Conn.) and sophomore forward Hugh Lindo (Enfield, Conn.), the Warriors shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the game, 59.4 percent in the first half when they rolled up a 20-point, 46-26 lead.

"Eastern Connecticut State University really overpowered us at times," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "They are a really good basketball team and we are a young group. I'm confident we will learn a lot from this."

Preston was 9-for-14 from the floor in totaling a game-high 23 points, Lindo 7-for-10 in scoring 16 points. Lindo, who dunked for five of his six first-half buckets, finished with 16 points and also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked two shots. All five Eastern starters shot at least 50 percent from the floor. Freshman guard Tarchee Brown (Manchester) added 13 points (5-for-10 from the floor) and junior guard Kevin Leumene (Stamford) 11 points (5-for-9) and six rebounds.

Preston sank five of Eastern's seven three-pointers and also handed out seven assists.

Connecticut College, playing without starting point guard Bob McKinley (Westport, N.Y.) got a team-high 16 points off the bench from freshman guard Lee Messier (Narragansett, R.I.).  Aaron Swenson (Waltham, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points for the Camels, shooting 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Daniel Janel (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) finished with eight points and seven rebounds for the visitors.
