LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Liz Rosen (Jr., San Anselmo, Calif.) posted five goals, including pairs in the first and second quarters, to claim Player of the Game honors as Brown University toppled Division III No. 9-ranked Connecticut College, 12-2, to reach the Fifth Place game of the 2014 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium.
In the third meeting of the year between the two programs following 15-12 and 14-9 victories by the Bears (19-16, 5-3 Southern Division) in regular season competition, Brown wasted little time in placing the Camels in another hole to claim the largest margin of victory in the 2014 series.
Shannon Crowley (Fr., Seal Beach, Calif.) opened the scoring by sweeping in a shot with 6:34 left in the first quarter prior to Rosen posting back-to-back tallies at 5:54 and 3:05, respectively, to make it 3-0.
Connecticut (15-9, 14-1 CWPA Division III) cut its deficit down by a third at 2:44 as 2013 and 2014 CWPA Division III Player of the Year Nicky Jasbon (Jr., Greenacres, Fla.) ripped in a five-meter penalty shot with 2:44 on the clock following a call against Brown's Sarah Presant (Sr., Poway, Calif.) to make it 3-1.
However, the Bears roared back in a big way by tacking on an advantage score by Emily McNamara (Sr., Winters, Calif.) 2:10 prior to the period's concluding horn to return the lead to three at 4-1 after eight minutes of action.
Brown continued to pour on the offense and the Bears were able to pull away to take the 12-2 victory.
In the cage, Sarah Shin (Sr., Fullerton, Calif.) earned the win with seven stops in 24 minutes before being relieved for the final eight minutes of the fourth quarter by Raquel Louis (Sr., Wellington, Fla.). Ashley Amey (So., Napa, Calif.) took the loss for Connecticut with 10 saves.
Connecticut, which advanced to the CWPA Championship field by claiming the league's Division III Championship two weeks ago at Macalester College with a 7-3 defeat of Division III No. 10-ranked Washington & Jefferson College, will compete in the Seventh Place contest at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday against Harvard University.
