Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Senior guard Jimmy Louissaint (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored six of his 14 points in overtime to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 71-68 triumph over Connecticut College at Luce Field House Thursday night.

Louissaint buried a three-pointer from the right side of the arch with 3:18 remaining that put the visitors on top for good. He was 3-for-4 from long distance while also finishing with five assists.

The Colonials moved to 10-4 with the victory while the Camels slipped to 7-7.

Junior Phil Starks (Hartford, Conn.) finished with a team-high 15 points for the winning side. Tre'Von Perry (Waterbury, Conn.) chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds.  Jeremiah Washington (Waterbury, Conn.) contributed with 11 points and nine boards for the Colonials.

Connecticut College freshman Lee Messier (Narragansett, R.I.) poured in a team-high 15 points to go with seven rebounds.  Sophomore Zuri Pavlin (New York, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds with four assists. Freshman Isaiah Robinson (Lynn, Mass.) reached double digits with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists for the hosts.

"We are disappointed because we did some things really well but we didn't handle their pressure well enough in the first half and that was really the difference," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said.

The visitors carried a 36-30 lead into the break. But the Camels clawed back in the second stanza. A nifty looking baseball toss-half court pass from Alex Hall (Durham, N.C.) to Austin Brown (Katonah, N.Y.) in the paint put the Camels on top 53-51 with 8:37 remaining in regulation.

But the visitors regained a two point edge when Washington converted with a hoop in the paint with 3:30 remaining to put the Colonials on top 59-57.

On the ensuing possession, Sean McNally (Hanover, Mass.) corralled an offensive rebound and Messier was able to drive the baseline for a hoop that forced the eighth tie of the game at 59 apiece.

Both sides had opportunities to pull the game out in regulation but could not convert and the game was decided in an extra session.

The Camels took a two-point lead when junior Bo McKinley (Westport, N.Y.) knocked down a pair of free throws with 4:34 remaining.

But Louissaint answered with his three ball to spark the visitors on a 7-0 run.

Western Connecticut State University was able to hold on for the 71-68 triumph.

Connecticut College enjoyed a 48-to-38 rebounding advantage in the contest.
