Connecticut College 3, Trinity College 1 Johnson Buries 14 Kills as Camels Extend Winning Streak to Six Matches

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Junior Ella Johnson (Seal Beach, Calif.) buried 14 kills and added five digs and four blocks in leading the Connecticut College volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Trinity College at Luce Field House Friday night. 

With their sixth straight win, the Camels improved their record to 12-5 with a 3-4 record in the NESCAC. The Bantams fell to 7-9 and are 1-6 in conference play.

The set scores were 25-23, 25-14, 26-28 and 25-11 in favor of the hosts.

Rookie outside hitter Jenny Kellogg (Los Altos, Calif.) chipped in with 15 kills, seven digs and four blocks.  Sam Hunter (Palos Verdes, Calif.) contributed with nine kills, four digs and one block.  Sophomore libero Caroline Branigan (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) accounted for 22 digs while senior Caroline Martin (Palo Alto, Calif.) finished with 14.

Sophomore setter Katia Elisman (Lake Forest, Ill.) dished out 48 assists and had eight digs for the hosts.

Trinity College seniors Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, Mass.) posted double-doubles to lead the visitors. Drews had 16 kills and 14 digs while Giddens registered 16 kills and 10 digs in the match.  Junior setter Randi Whitham (South Weymouth, Mass.) distributed 21 assists to go with her five digs while senior setter Gina Buzzelli (Cheshire, Conn.) reached double digits with 10 digs and 14 assists. 

Sophomore libero Grace Metry (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) collected 14 digs to lead the Bantam defense

Trinity will visit Tufts University tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. NESAC match. At the same time, the Camels will host Wesleyan University here in New London for a 2:00 p.m. NESCAC tilt.
