Connecticut College 3, Wesleyan University 0 Camels Clinch NESCAC Playoff Berth for 11th Straight Year

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Caroline Martin (Palo Alton, Calif.) had 13 kills and nine digs to lead the Connecticut College volleyball team to a 3-0 shutout victory against intrastate rival Wesleyan University at Luce Field House Saturday.

The set scores were 25-11, 25-14 and 25-17 in favor of the hosts.

Two weeks ago, the Camels were winless in conference play (0-4) and hovering near .500 at 6-5. Today, the Camels clinched a berth in the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the 11th straight year with their seventh straight win, improving to 13-5 while evening their conference record at 4-4.

The Cardinals fell to 4-10 and are 1-7 in conference action.

Sophomore Sam Hunter (Palos Verdes, Calif.) posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, hitting an impressive .474 in the victory.  Senior Andrea Mullaney (New Canaan, Conn.) buried seven kills while adding one dig and one block for the victors. Jenny Kellogg (Los Altos, Calif.) tallied six kills and 11 digs while rookie libero Caroline Branigan (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) paced the Camels on defense with a math-best 17 digs.

Sophomore setter Katia Elisman (Lake Forest, Ill.) dished out 37 assists in the triumph, adding seven digs, three blocks and a pair of aces.

Wesleyan University rookie outside hitter Madeline Lundberg (West Newton, Mass.) had a nice match for the visitors, finishing up with five kills, nine digs and a pair of assists.  Rookie setter Kelsey Tam (Basking Ridge, N.J.) distributed 12 assists to go along with her four digs and two aces. Junior Rachel Savage (Portland, Ore.) collected 12 digs for the Cardinals.

Wesleyan returns to action Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. match at Westfield State University.

The Camels will visit Eastern Connecticut State Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. match.
