Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.—Tyler Rowe (pictured, East Hartford, Conn.) scored 14 of his team-best 22 points in the second half to lead the Connecticut College men's basketball team to its fifth straight win, an 85-72 triumph against Eastern Connecticut State University. Rowe added seven rebounds and four steals to his stat line and was 3-for-6 from three-point distance and a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line.
The Camels improved their record to 5-2 with the victory while the Warriors fell to 6-3 with the setback.
"We got many contributions from many different players so it was a good team win," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "We made some mistakes with our coverages and rebounding assignments but at times we really put together some great offensive sequences and that carried us down the stretch."
Senior co-captain Bo McKinley (Westport, N.Y.) stepped off the bench to score 12 points shooting 3-for-5 from the field, 2-for-3 from long distance and was 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Junior co-captain Zuri Pavlin (New York, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Camels. Sophomore Lee Messier (Narragansett, R.I.), Isaiah Robinson (Lynn, Mass.) and David Labossiere (Stoneham, Mass.) all finished with 10 points in the triumph.
McKinley was pleased with the team's effort and is looking forward to the weeks ahead as the team continues to bond and develop together as a unit.
"It's a huge win for us tonight," McKinley said. "That's the biggest win for us since I've been at Conn. They were an NCAA Team last year and they've already beat two NESCAC teams. Everybody is filling in the gaps for us and we're having a lot of fun. The freshmen have been huge for us. Tyler has been unbelievable and he showed it tonight. We have the potential to be really good because we are 15 deep and everyone can knock down shots."
Senior guard Trachone Preston (Enfield, Conn.) dumped in 22 points to lead the visitors. Kevin Leumene (Stamford, Conn.) finished with 17 points and eight rebounds for the visitors. Hugh Lindo (Enfield, Conn.) chipped in with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the setback. Sophomore guard Tarchee Brown (Rockville, Conn.) added 13 points and six boards in the loss for the Warriors.
The Warriors carried a 41-38 lead into the break and built a 51-42 advantage after Leumene knocked down a field goal with 16:33 remaining. But the Camels responded with a 23-to-9 run to take control of the contest. McKinley dialed long distance from the top of the key to put the Camels on top for good, 63-60, with 6:25 to go. On the next Camel possession, Pavlin corralled an offensive board and scored to make it a 65-60 contest.
With 4:01 remaining, Rowe buried a trey from the left side to put the Camels in control with a 69-63 lead.
The Camels continued to pull away for the 85-72 victory.
