Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Sophomore Jeff Racy (Ridgefield, Conn.) set a school record for single game three-point makes, connecting on 10-of-14 shots from long distance en route to his game-high 30 points to lead the Amherst College men's basketball team to a 94-61 victory at Connecticut College Friday night.
Amherst improved its record to 16-5 while moving to 5-3 in conference play. Connecticut College slipped to 7-13 with a 0-7 mark in the NESCAC.
As a team Amherst shot 47% from long range, connecting on 20-of-43 shots from beyond the arch.
Junior Connor Green (Bedford, N.H.) chipped in with 24 points and six rebounds for the visitors, knocking down 6-of-13 shots from long distance. Jacob Nabatoff (Charlotte, N.C.) added eight points for Amherst.
Connecticut College sophomore Daniel Janel (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) finished with 13 points and eight rebounds in 15 minutes of productive play off of the Camel bench. Alex Hall (Durham, N.C.) chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds for the hosts. Sophomore Zuri Pavlin (New York, N.Y.) reached double digits with 10 points and eight rebounds in the setback.
"Amherst shot so well and so consistently we could never put together much of a run," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "They were outstanding tonight."
Green buried a jumper to cap an early run with 15:41 remaining in the opening half that vaulted the visitors out to a 21-4 advantage. The junior sharp-shooter scored 10 points during the run for Amherst.
Amherst led by as many as 27 but Colin Pascoe put in a hoop in the paint in the closing moments to trim the Camel deficit to 52-31 at the break.
In the second stanza, the Camels closed to within 57-40 when Alex Hall (Durham, N.C.) dialed long distance with a triple from the left side of the arch with 14:14 remaining.
But Amherst was knocking down shots from the perimeter all night long.
Racy was 5-for-8 from three in the second stanza. With 7:27 to play, Racy broke the Amherst record with his 10th triple coming from the right side of the arch to make it an 83-52 game.
Amherst was able to hold on for the 94-61 triumph.
