Colby College 83, Connecticut College 73 Camels Can Clinch NESCAC Playoff Berth with Win at Bowdoin Saturday

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College men's basketball team shot 56.6 percent from the field and had 23 assists in a 83-73 victory over Connecticut College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Colby improves to 15-8 overall and 3-6 in league play, while the Camels drop to 12-11 and also 3-6 in conference action. The Mules host Wesleyan University on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the regular season finale, while Connecticut College plays at Bowdoin College on Saturday at 3 p.m. Bowdoin took an 80-71 win over Wesleyan on Friday.

The Mules, the Camels, and Bowdoin are all 3-6 in the conference and tied for seventh place in the conference. The top eight teams make the league playoffs. Connecticut College can clinch a playoff berth in the NESCAC Championship with a victory in Brunswick tomorrow.

Colby senior point guard Luke Westman had a game-high 22 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line. Ryan Jann shot 7-for-11 from the field and had 19 points, while Patrick Stewart had a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and had four assists. Chris Hudnut had a fine all-around game with 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting, a team-high seven assists, and six rebounds. John Gallego came off the bench with nine points and four assists.

Zuri Pavlin was 8-for-12 from the field for 21 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. David Labossiere finished with 13 points, while Lee Messier had 11 points and was 3-for-5 from 3-point range. David Janel also had 11 points and point guard Tyler Rowe had a game-high eight assists, four steals, and six points.

"We couldn't guard Colby consistently tonight and their seniors played great," Connecticut College Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Satran said. "We couldn't guard Colby consistently tonight and their seniors played great. We had no answers for them."

The Mules took a 38-34 lead into halftime and came out strong in the opening four minutes to take a 46-38 margin. The Camels hit back-to-back 3-point shots to cut the lead to 46-44 with 15:25 remaining. Colby used a 9-0 scoring run, powered by two inside baskets by Pat Dickert, to go up 55-44 with 11:43 remaining.

Connecticut College got as close as seven points at 62-55 with 7:41 to play, but could not get a scoring run to get back in the contest. The Mules pushed the lead up to 15 points with late foul shots.
