Women's Water Polo

Camels Race Out to 3-0 Start in Conference Play

KENOSHA, Wis.--The Connecticut College women's water polo team raced out to a 3-0 start in Division III play with a sweep in Saturday's action hosted by Carthage College.

The Camels secured a 12-5 victory against Penn State-Behrend in their season opener.  They defeated Grove City College 11-7 before closing out the day with an 8-6 triumph against the Pioneers of Utica College.

Senior All-American Kelsey Millward (pictured, Baie D'Urfe, Quebec) had 10 goals in the triple-header, adding seven earned ejections, four assists and a pair of steals for the Camels.  Sophomore Emma Stephens (Huntington Beach, Calif.) chipped in with five goals and three earned ejections. Senior Abbey Wrobleski (Honolulu, Hawaii) and sophomore Sophia Soriano (Summerland, Calif.) scored four goals each for Head Coach Matt Anderson's Camels. Wrobleski added four assists, three steals and three earned ejections to her stat-line.

Junior Brianna Harrity (Jeffersonville, Pa.) and sophomore April Anderson (Mill Valley, Calif.) netted three goals each. Harrity had six assists while Anderson finished with two. Camel rookie Kendra Baity (Montclair, N.J.) scorer the first two goals of her career in the victory against Utica.

Freshmen Ashley Fitch (Deerfield, Mass.) and Sydney Rentsch (Wilkes Barre, Pa.) both contributed with two assists in Saturday's action.

Junior net-minder Sarah Sovia (Pottstown, Pa.) had 12 saves against the Lions of Penn State—Behrend in her first start of the season. She made 14 stops in the cage against Grove City. Senior Annie Speranza (Hopkinton, Mass.) made 13 saves in the Utica match. Earlier in the day, Speranza saw her first action in relief of Sovia against Penn State-Behrend, allowing one goal while stopping two Lion shots for the Camels.

Connecticut College will play three more matches at Carthage College today before returning home to host Siena this Thursday night for a 6:00 p.m. match.
