Men's Water Polo Splits With Rival W&J and Gannon on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's water polo team split a pair of games on the opening day of a home tournament on Saturday at the Lott Natatorium. The Camels first defeated Washington & Jefferson, 10-8, before suffering a 17-5 setback against Gannon later in the evening.

Connecticut College continued its dominance by defeating its biggest rival in Washington & Jefferson for the second straight weekend. The Camels burst out to leads of 4-0 and 8-2 by the break, which included getting three markers from senior Dylan Pinckert (Long Beach, Calif.) in a span of 1:45 during the stretch run of the opening quarter.

Washington & Jefferson stormed back and closed the gap to just three goals at 9-6 when Nick Spehar found the back of the net in the opening minutes of the fourth and final frame, but the Camels were able to hold off the Presidents to notch their sixth win of the season.

Gannon 17, Connecticut College 5

In the nightcap, Connecticut College stayed competitive at the beginning and only trailed by a 3-1 score by the end of the first quarter. Gannon, however, caught fire and embarked on a 7-2 run during the second and third frames to pull away. Kaden Conley extended the margin to twin figures at 15-5 by scoring with 3:10 remaining, and the Golden Knights tallied two more to run away with the win.

Prior to the match, the Camels recognized seniors Stephan Cress (Rockford, Mich.), Jake Pescatore (New Haven, Conn.), Matthew Wagman (Atlanta, Ga.) and Pinckert for their contributions to the program over the last four years. The group is the winningest class in school history.

Connecticut College (6-11) wraps up tournament play tomorrow with games against La Salle at 9:00 a.m. and Penn State Behrend at noon. The second match of the day will also be the program's annual Green Dot game.
