Nationally-Ranked Women's Soccer Rolls Past Bates

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Kat Norton (Hampton, Conn.) found the back of the net twice, which included recording her third game-winning marker against a NESCAC opponent, as the No. 16 Connecticut College women's soccer team rolled past Bates by a 3-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at Freeman Field.

Norton provided the eventual decisive marker by finishing a pass from senior Mackenzie Kingston (Charlotte, Vt.) just 5:21 into the contest. The Camels continued to pepper Bobcat goalkeeper Sarah McCarthy with shots and got another marker when senior Caroline Kelleher (Holden, Mass.) collected a rebound and scored on the open net. Sophomore Mia Santana (New London, Conn.) was credited with an assist on the play, and the Camels carried a 2-0 advantage into the recess.

With the defense continuing to be impenetrable and Kingston most notably shutting down top scoring threat Olivia Amdur, Connecticut College (9-1-1, NESCAC 5-1-1) dominated the second half and outshot its opponent by a 15-1 margin over the last 45 minutes. On the offensive end, Norton also provided an insurance marker by taking a pass from Michelle Medina (Hartford, Conn.) and beating McCarthy for the dagger at the 60-minute mark. Senior captain Alex Bukovac (Winnetka, Ill.) helped to anchor a back line which did not allow the Bobcats to attempt a shot the rest of the way, and the Camels maintained their second-place spot in the standings by notching their fifth conference win of the season.

Senior Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) picked up her eighth victory of the fall for Connecticut College, which had a 27-5 advantage in total shots, by making one save in more than 66 minutes of action. Sophomore Sarah Williams (Sherborn, Mass.) also turned away one shot in relief of Montalvo, while McCarthy of Bates (5-4-1, NESCAC 2-3-1) made nine stops in the setback.

Connecticut College will face a tough test in its final non-conference match of the regular season when it visits Wheaton on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 4:00 p.m.
