Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College men's basketball team was dealt a 91-57 setback by No. 11 Williams at the Charles B. Luce Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Connecticut College (5-8, NESCAC 0-2), which was facing a nationally-ranked opponent for the second straight day, started strong and built up leads of 6-0 and 10-2 in the early stages. Junior Phil Leotsakos (Arlington, Mass.) made back-to-back baskets and classmate David Labossiere (Stoneham, Mass.) drove in for a layup to put the hosts in control through the first four minutes.
The Ephs, however, stormed back with nine unanswered to build a 14-10 lead with James Heskett starting the scoring by sinking a three and then ending the hot stretch with a layup with 12:36 on the clock. Even though the teams traded the lead two more times, Williams got hot by embarking on a 25-6 run during the last seven minutes. After Labossiere sank a pair of free throws to make it 34-28 at the 3:45 mark, the visitors closed the half with 15 straight points to take a convincing lead into recess which they would not relinquish.
"Williams is a great team and they showed it today," said head coach Tom Satran. "We clearly have a lot we can learn from this game."
Bobby Casey paced Williams (11-2, NESCAC 2-0) with 25 points by shooting 9-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-8 from long distance. Heskett ended the game with 19 points and seven assists to go along with three steals, while Matthew Karpowicz fell just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
Connecticut College (5-8, NESCAC 0-2) got an 11-point effort off the bench from freshman Dan Draffan (Hamden, Conn.). Labossiere added eight points and six assists.
The Camels conclude a six-game homestand when they host Fisher College on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 p.m.
