MONMOUTH, Ill. – Freshman Stephania Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) scored a combined eight goals as the Connecticut College women's water polo team swept a pair of games at a weekend tournament being hosted by Monmouth College on Saturday. The Camels first won a shootout over Washington & Jefferson by a 16-10 score before earning a 9-5 victory over Carthage.

After conceding the first goal, Connecticut College rattled off six straight against the Presidents and never looked back. Senior Sophia Soriano (Summerland, Calif.) scored four times during the hot stretch to put the Camels in control before classmate Shannon Cry (Monterey, Calif.) and sophomore Ginny McCool (Delray Beach, Fla.) each scored twice during a six-goal third quarter to allow Connecticut College to come away with the win.

Connecticut College never trailed in its second game, as McCool netted consecutive goals to break a 1-1 tie and give the Camels the momentum moving forward. Lopez then scored five goals, including four in the second frame alone, and senior Sarah Nappo (Portland, Maine) made eight saves between the posts to help the team eventually come away with the four-goal win.
Connecticut College (4-4) will conclude tournament play when it faces Grove City tomorrow morning at 10:45 EST.
