NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's water polo team split against its competition at the CWPA Division III Championships on Saturday at the Lott Natatorium. The Camels first defeated Utica, 12-4, before dropping a 15-12 decision to Wittenberg later in the day.

Connecticut College 12, Utica 4

Connecticut College led from wire-to-wire to deal Utica its 65th straight loss dating back to the 2015 season. The Camels scored three times each quarter and limited their opponent to just one goal through 24 minutes of action to record their fourth win of the season over the Pioneers.

Sophomores Brooklynn Hayes (Granville, Mass.) and Stephania Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) each netted a hat trick, while junior Ginny McCool (Delray Beach, Fla.) made six saves between the pipes in the first half and scored twice in the second. McCool also added four steals and a field block to earn Player of the Game accolades.

Wittenberg 15, Connecticut College 12

Connecticut College found itself ahead by a 2-1 score for the second straight game by getting early markers from Lopez and McCool, but Wittenberg battled back by capitalizing on several Camel turnovers to pull ahead. Spearheaded by Savanah Phillips, who finished with nine goals in the contest, the Tigers held leads of 6-3 and 13-8 at the end of the second and third quarters, respectively, and held off a late charge by the hosts to secure the victory.

Lopez led the Camel offense by finding the back of the net six times. Junior Kaitlin Reagan (Saratoga, Calif.) and McCool combined to make 15 saves in the cage.

Connecticut College will wrap up the weekend when it faces Penn State Behrend in the seventh-place game tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
