Women's Water Polo Falls to Brown in Final Tuneup Before CWPA Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Connecticut College women's water polo team fell to Brown by a 14-8 score on Tuesday evening.

Brown, which was playing at home for the first time since embarking on a 20-game road trip, got going when McKenna Miller scored 58 seconds into the contest. Allison Woo doubled the margin, and the Bears took a 5-1 lead into the first break by getting a last-second marker from Jamie Smith.

Sophomore Stephania Lopez (Chicago, Ill.) provided a hat trick for the Camels in the opening half, but the hosts would prove to be too much and held a commanding 11-3 advantage at recess. The visitors tallied three goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth, but the early hole was too deep for them to dig out of.

Smith led Brown (16-11) with six points on three goals and three assists. Miller added two goals and two helpers, while Riley Hughes contributed a pair of goals.

Lopez paced Connecticut College with four goals and an assist. Junior Ginny McCool (Delray Beach, Fla.) factored into the game on both ends by scoring one goal, making two saves in the cage, and being one of three Camels to record two steals. Freshman Marissa Moreno ended the game with three assists and two swipes.

Connecticut College (7-8) will return home to host the CWPA Division III Championships from Friday, Apr. 12th through Sunday, Apr. 14th. The Camels are seeded fourth in the 10-team field and will open up tournament play against fifth-seeded Monmouth on Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m.
