Women's Soccer Stays Undefeated With 1-0 Victory Over Bates

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Mya Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) scored her fourth goal of the season, including her third game-winning marker, in leading the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Bates on Saturday afternoon at Freeman Field.

The Camels, who outshot their opponent by a 17-4 margin, got the only tally they needed in the 34th minute of action. Junior Kat Norton (Hampton, Conn.) chipped a pass to senior captain Zoe Stublarec (Rockfall, Conn.), who found a cutting Johnson on the right side for a rocket that landed in the upper 90 of the opposite side of the net. Stublarec was credited with an assist on the play.

Junior netminder Katy Pelletier (Topsfield, Mass.) picked up her second shutout as a collegian in as many matches by making two saves for Connecticut College, which also had a commanding 8-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Katherine Nuckols of Bates (1-2, NESCAC 0-2) turned away five shots in the setback.

Connecticut College (4-0, NESCAC 2-0) will remain at home to face Coast Guard for the Whale Cup on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
