Williams Betters Men's Ice Hockey, 3-1, for Second Time This Season

Box Score

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Connecticut College men's ice hockey team fell to Williams by a 3-1 score at the Lansing Chapman Rink on Friday evening.

The teams traded goals in the opening period, beginning when Nick VanBelle shot a loose puck into the net to give the Ephs a 1-0 lead just 5:59 into the game. However, junior Paul Capozzi (Lake Forest, Ill.) was able to respond on a power play just 1:26 later when he ripped a slap shot from the left point.

Even though the Camels held a 14-7 shot advantage in the second period, Williams (12-4-1, NESCAC 9-2) was able to score the lone goal in the frame which came in shorthanded fashion. Nick Altmann skated across the blue line before dumping the puck into the visitors' net.

With under two minutes remaining, Connecticut College elected to pull senior netminder Connor Rodericks (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) in an attempt to tie the score for a second time. However, Niko Karamanis was able to add an insurance marker by shooting the puck into the center of the empty net from the Ephs' defensive zone with 1:03 left.

Evan Ruschil made 36 saves to pick up the victory for Williams, while Camel netminder Rodericks turned aside 20 shots in the setback.

Connecticut College (8-8-1, NESCAC 4-6-1) wraps up a weekend road trip at Middlebury tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
