Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Jacob Moreau (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec) and sophomore Steven Senese (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) each factored into a pair of goals in leading the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Worcester State in its first game of the New Year on Tuesday evening at Dayton Arena.
The Camels got on the board in the blink of an eye and led from wire-to-wire, as junior assistant captain Brett Stirling (Aurora, Ontario) took a loose puck along the blue line and fired it home just 25 seconds into the contest. After a failed clear attempt, the hosts took advantage of an extra opportunity when senior Dan Driscoll (Salem, Mass.) received a pass in the left corner and skated in for an uncontested shot to make it 2-0 at the 5:28 mark.
Connecticut College stayed hot in the early stages of the second and capitalized on a 4-on-4 situation with extra ice to work with, as sophomore Colin McCabe (Pembroke, Mass.) received a short pass from classmate Colin Stevens (Concord, N.H.) in the slot and unleashed a shot to the top left shelf of the net at 6:48. Even though the Lancers were able to get on the board at the midway point courtesy of a power play marker at the 11:43 mark, the hosts had a quick answer to remain in control for the remainder of the game. Moreau netted his second goal of the season just 1:44 later to seal the final outcome.
Senior Connor Rodericks (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) made 21 saves to pick up the victory between the pipes for Connecticut College, while Josh Reinstein of Worcester State (5-6-1) was tagged with the loss for surrendering all four goals in over 30 minutes of action despite turning away 26 shots.
Connecticut College (4-5) will next travel to visit No. 8 Salve Regina on Friday evening at 7:35 p.m.
