Men's Ice Hockey Rallies To Defeat Hamilton, 3-2, in Overtime

Box Score

CLINTON, N.Y. – Junior Matt Creamer (Warwick, R.I.) scored his third goal of the season in the 62nd minute of action as the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team rallied from two goals down to defeat Hamilton by a 3-2 score in overtime on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Despite getting outshot 43-20, Connecticut College made the most of its limited opportunities. Hamilton (10-8-4, NESCAC 9-5-2) scored two goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game, but junior Paul Capozzi (Lake Forest, Ill.) found the back of the net to slice the deficit in half after senior captain Ryan Petti (Tewksbury, Mass.) picked up a loose puck off a giveaway and fed it to his teammate at 16:14.

Less than four minutes later, Capozzi and Petti teamed up again to help the Camels net the equalizer before the first intermission. Petti put in a rebound off a slap shot taken by Capozzi while the visitors were on the power play. Sophomore Colin Stevens (Concord, N.H.), who found Capozzi, was also credited with an assist on the play.

Following two scoreless periods which featured the Continentals outshooting the Camels by a lopsided 30-6 margin, the visitors struck gold when they attempted the first shot of the extra session. Sophomore Steven Senese (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) picked up a loose puck off the boards and found Creamer at the point, who potted the game-winner 1:18 into the frame.

Seniors Connor Rodericks (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Avery Gobbo (Mississauga, Ontario) combined for 43 saves in the contest, while Gobbo picked up the victory for turning away all eight shots he faced in the final 21:43 of action. Anthony Tirabassi made 17 stops in the losing effort.

Connecticut College (10-10-2, NESCAC 6-8-2), which ended the weekend in seventh place, will return home to conclude the regular season next weekend. The Camels will first face Bowdoin on Friday night at 7 p.m.
