NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College field hockey team dropped a non-conference game to No. 5 Babson by a 10-2 score on Sunday afternoon at Silfen Field.
Babson caged four goals in the first quarter to set the tone for the contest. Millie Brady opened the scoring when she took a pass from Brianne McGrath, evaded several Camel defenders, and then fired the ball into the left corner just over four minutes into the contest. Quinn Greer doubled the margin 1:54 later, and Lauren Curley then factored into the next two goals. She first knocked the ball into the goal after a shot from McGrath hit the post and followed by finding Claire Nichols with a back door pass from the endline that was finished in the far right corner.
Following a scoreless second quarter, the Camels were able to get on the scoreboard first in the opening minutes of the third. Sophomore
Sydney Cresta (Swampscott, Mass.) Cresta took a close shot that was initially saved by Cassidy Riley, and classmate
Hope Melanson (Wakefield, Mass.) poked the ensuing loose ball into the goal to give the hosts life.
However, Babson responded by scoring five straight to completely regain control. Jessica Evans, Isabelle Fournier, and Amber Rose each tallied a pair of goals to give the Beavers the convincing win.
Babson (14-1) outshot the Camels by a 32-9 margin and had a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners. Cassidy Riley picked up the win by making four saves between the posts in three quarters of action. Senior
Jackie Mountford (New London, Conn.) suffered the loss despite making 13 more saves for Connecticut College, which also got a goal from senior
Logan Kilfoyle (Plymouth, N.H.) in the final minutes.
Connecticut College (1-11) will continue a three-game homestand when it next welcomes Western New England to Silfen Field on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
