Field Hockey Downs Western New England, 2-1, On Silfen Field

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Logan Kilfoyle (Plymouth, N.H.) scored a career-high two goals in leading the Connecticut College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Western New England on Wednesday evening at Silfen Field.

After outshooting the Golden Bears by a 6-2 count in the first quarter, the Camels broke through in the opening minute of the second when Kilfoyle took an initial shot which was saved by goalie Zoey Wexler and then buried her own rebound. However, the Golden Bears came right back and evened the score on a hard shot by Carly-Anna Barba that landed in the back left corner of the cage.

Early in the second half, Kilfoyle struck again with what would be the deciding goal. Sophomore Bridget Mason (East Greenwich, R.I.) collected a long pass sent in from the midfield sideline by freshman Chloe Therrien (Boxford, Mass.), raced in towards Wexler, and rocketed a shot that was turned aside. Kilfoyle, however, was there to pot the rebound to eventually give the hosts the victory.

Senior Jackie Mountford (New London, N.H.) earned the victory by making five saves for Connecticut College (2-11), which outshot the Golden Bears by a 20-11 margin and had a 7-6 edge in penalty corners. Wexler of Western New England (8-5) turned away 10 shots in the loss.
