MANSFIELD, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's soccer team defeated nearby Eastern Connecticut State by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Connecticut College junior
Augie Djerdjaj (Mahopac, N.Y.) opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 31st minute, and sophomore
Rye Jaran (Dowington, Penn.) followed suit in the 40th minute with a goal of his own to put the Camels up 2-0 over the Warriors at the half. The Camels controlled the pace of play and maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the first half, while Eastern Connecticut State was unable to register a shot in the first 45 minutes.
The second half was much of the same with the Camels leading the way in shots and holding off their opponent's attack. The lone shot attempt by Eastern's Larson Richards was blocked on a free kick, and the Camels ended the second half leading 9-1 in shots. The Warriors were unable to control the ball for extended periods into Connecticut College's defensive zone and overall were unable to create many opportunities.
Freshman goalie
Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda) took over in goal for the Camels in the 61st minute and did not miss a beat, as he continued to hold the opponent scoreless throughout the remainder of the contest.
Junior goalkeeper
Sam Maidenberg (South Orange, N.J.) earned the win for Connecticut College despite not having a busy day in the net with no shots on goal. Goalkeeper Nathan Yeich took the loss for Eastern Connecticut State (6-5) while making two saves and allowing two first-half goals. The Camels ended the contest with a demanding lead in the shots category, outshooting the opponent by a 16-1 margin while leading them in corner kicks as well by a tally of 3-2.
Connecticut College (7-2) will next travel to Hartford, Conn. next Tuesday, October 12th, at 7:00 p.m. for a NESCAC matchup with Trinity.
