WATERFORD, Conn. – Led by juniors
Matt Carter (Manchester, Mass.) and
Jeffrey Love (Union, N.J.), the Connecticut College men's cross country team placed sixth among 26 scoring teams with 132 points at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday morning at Harkness Park.
Carter and Love completed the 8,000-meter circuit by posting fifth and sixth-place marks of 25:11.5 and 25:13.7, respectively. They both earned all-region laurels, along with senior
Stuart Pollock (Westfield, N.J.), who placed 28th overall and third on the team in 26:00.8. Sophomore
Kaleb Habtegebriel (Lynn, Mass.) punched in a time of 26:37, which was good for 44th, and junior Chris Vertstandig (Slingerlands, N.Y,) was 49th in 26:44.9 to round out the top five finishers for the Camels.
By producing the top three individual finishers, Williams cruised to the team title to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. They finished with 54 points. Middlebury was second with 68 points, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was third with 82. Vassar (121) and Amherst (129) completed the top five in the standings, and Aiden Ryan of Williams won the individual crown in 24:35.8.
Connecticut College will now wait to see if it will be selected to compete as a team at the NCAA Championships in Louisville. Teams and additional individuals who qualify will be announced tomorrow.
