Women’s Basketball Beats Wheaton In Consolation Game Of Brandeis Tip Off Tournament

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) came close to posting a double-double in leading the Connecticut College women's basketball team to a 54-42 win over Wheaton in the consolation game of the Brandeis Tip Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

After an early 3-pointer by the Lyons' Alexis Romer, the Camels responded with 12 unanswered to take control for the remainder of the game. A good jumper by freshman Abby Ilusorio (Bonita, Calif.) gave the squad a comfortable 19-7 advantage through 10 minutes of action.

Connecticut College built its lead up to as many as 15 when freshman Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) stole the ball from Rian Sachs and converted a layup to make it 28-13 with 2:01 remaining in the half, and the Camels led by a pair of touchdowns heading into the intermission.

Sadie Shore scored eight points to spark a 15-5 Lyons run to start the second half and pull the team within 33-28 with 4:20 remaining in the third. However, the Camels responded and built their lead back up to nine by the end of the frame thanks to another steal converted into a layup, which this time was courtesy of junior Molly Cronin (Wellesley, Mass.). Wheaton came no closer than six the rest of the way.

Rojik made the all-tournament team after leading Connecticut College (1-1) with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and a steal. Senior Emily Tripp (Westport, Mass.) filled the box score with seven points, 10 boards, four assists, and two steals, while sophomore Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) matched one of Tripp's marks with 10 rebounds. The forward also registered four blocks and three steals.

Shore joined Rojik on the all-tournament team after scoring 14 points and adding three rebounds, three steals, and a pair of blocks to her final tally for Wheaton (1-3). Greta Minos contributed a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds in addition to finishing with four assists and a pair of steals.

Connecticut College returns to action when it hosts Roger Williams on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
