WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman
Jake Vaughan (Colorado Springs, Colo.) netted his first two collegiate goals and tallied an assist as the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team routed Becker, 7-1, at the Worcester Ice Center on Saturday evening. The Camels ended the weekend unbeaten through four countable games this winter.
After Becker (1-5-1) netted the first goal of the contest early in the second, Connecticut College (3-0-1) got going courtesy of some puck luck and stayed in control for the remainder of the game. An attempted breakout pass by a Hawks defenseman inadvertently hit off Vaughan and then landed in the goal. Junior
Sam Stone (Middleton, Mass.) and senior
Matt Creamer (Warwick, R.I.) then completed a give-and-go to give the Camels their first lead.
Freshman
Seth Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) tallied a shorthanded goal by causing a turnover at the top of the defensive zone, making it 3-1 through two periods, and a pair of power play goals by sophomore
Eric Fournier (Lethbridge, Alberta) and junior
Kyle Shero (Westwood, Mass.) put the game out of reach.
Freshman
Cam Fernandez (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up the victory by making 27 saves for Connecticut College, which saw captains
Brett Stirling (Aurora, Ontario) and Creamer pick up three assists apiece. Becker's Zach Skop recorded 38 stops in the losing effort.
