BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team defeated Sarah Lawrence by a 69-34 score on Saturday afternoon. The team utilized a balanced scoring attack and saw all 11 players accumulate at least three points.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Camels broke loose in the second by outscoring the hosts by a whopping 17-2 margin in the second. Four different players combined for the first eight points during the hot stretch and five scored overall.
The Camels continued to dominate in the third and went on a 19-5 run during the 10-minute span. Junior
Emily Tripp (Westport, Mass.) kept the offense going by hitting back-to-back buckets before sophomore
Emily O'Sullivan (North Reading, Mass.) closed out the quarter with a jumper that was set up by junior
Audrey Shaev (Scarsdale, N.Y.).
Leading by a 33-point margin entering the fourth, the Camels had more than enough insurance to earn their second victory of the winter.
Aislinn McMahon put back a missed shot to balloon the lead to 35 at 55-20 and also hit a 3-pointer to keep the Gryphons at bay.
Sophomore
Jaycie Rojik (Scituate, Mass.) and Tripp each came just shy of a double-double while combining for 19 points and 19 rebounds. Tripp finished with 10 points and nine boards, and Rojik scored nine and pulled down nine rebounds.
Rebecca Oberman-Levine grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots to help propel Connecticut College to the victory.
Kendall Haymore led the way for Sarah Lawrence. She scored 13 points by shooting 5-of-7 from the floor. Aside from Haymore, the Gryphons struggled miserably from the field and were held to just 20.4 percent shooting from the floor, which included going 0-for-15 in the second quarter.
The two teams will square off in New York for the second straight day on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
