NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior
Steven Senese (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) fueled a late surge by scoring twice in the third period as the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team defeated Albertus Magnus, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Ralph Walter Skating Rink.
The teams traded goals through the first two periods and found themselves deadlocked at 2-2 through 40 minutes of action. Owen Allen of Albertus Magnus (0-2) finished a pass from Brendan Sjostedt on a power play to knot the score for the second time at the 6:43 mark of the second period after the Camels held 1-0 and 2-1 advantages earlier in the contest.
Connecticut College (2-0), however, took over in the third period with Senese leading the charge. The junior broke the tie at 6:26 and then netted a shorthanded goal less than seven minutes later to put his team firmly in control. Sophomore
Kyle Shero (Westwood, Mass.) and sophomore
Brett Moccia (Lake Forest, Ill.) then added an insurance tally at 16:43 to seal the final outcome.
In a weekend of firsts for many players, freshman
Cam Fernandez (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up his first collegiate win between the pipes by making 32 saves. Sophomore
AJ DiCesare (Morristown, N.J.) also became the fourth Camel to net his first collegiate goal in two days against the Falcons. Logan Bateman, who stopped 27 shots, was charged with the loss.
