NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 Colby by a 14-6 score on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.
The program also recognized its four seniors –
Meghan Cunningham (New York, N.Y.),
Abbie Cronin (North Andover, Mass.),
Mazey Loomis (Wenham, Mass.), and
Minnie Stavis (Cohasset, Mass.) – and prior to the contest.
Even though sophomore
Emily Yorns (Longmeadow, Mass) opened up the scoring for today's competition, the Mules were on the attack and outscored the Camels, 7-2, in the first half and held off the hosts the rest of the way. Colby (3-1, NESCAC East 2-1) was paced by Annie Eddy, who finished with three goals and one assist on the day, and Gianna Bruno, who totaled six points on two goals and four assists.
Junior
Kelly Wolin (Sudbury, Mass) led Connecticut College (0-4, NESCAC East 0-2) offensively, totaling three of the team's six goals and two of which were earned on free position attempts. Defensively, Cronin and Cunningham tallied three ground balls and one caused turnover collectively, and classmate midfielder
Mazey Loomis (Wenham, Mass) scooped up three ground balls herself.
Colby's starting goalkeeper Hannah Marino finished with five stops on the day to earn the victory, and Conn's
Violette Nidds (Ridgewood, N.J.) played all 60 minutes and had an impressive 14 saves.
The Camels will next travel up to Lewiston, Maine tomorrow to take on Bates in their final NESCAC East matchup at 2 p.m.
