Women’s Soccer Concludes Weekend With 3-1 Victory Over Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Connecticut College women's soccer team defeated Roger Williams by a 3-1 score in an exhibition matchup on Sunday evening at Bayside Field.

"The second leg of the home-and-home series was a cagey affair," stated head coach Norm Riker. "Roger Williams was tough to break down in the final third, and they defended their home pitch with grit and scored a great goal. To our credit, we stayed focused and scored three great goals ourselves."

After setting up three tallies in last night's 5-0 win on Silfen Field, including two on free kicks, freshman Kristyn Moran (Hingham, Mass.) scored the first Camel goal by capitalizing on another freebie. Her direct strike from nearly 40 yards out sailed over the outstretched arms of the Hawk goalkeeper with under 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

"Back-to-back matches are always a challenge," explained Moran, who factored into half of the team's goals this weekend. "However, we stuck together as a team and made adjustments to pull through with a big win."

In an overtime session that the Hawks forced by netting an equalizer late in regulation, Connecticut College got its second marker of the match off another direct kick when junior Sarah Moore (Harvard, Mass.) was dangerously taken down just outside the 18-yard box. Classmate Emily Lorry (Lower Merion, Pa.) took advantage of the opportunity, burying the ball in the upper 90 of the net. Moore then doubled the margin to put the match out of reach by collecting the ball – following an initial shot by sophomore Mary Parse (Orange, Mass.) which was blocked – and lifting it over the keeper.

"I am really proud of how the team handled the doubleheader weekend," added Lorry. "We have some things we need to work on, but getting a win on the road is always a positive."

The Camels concluded the weekend by outscoring the Hawks, 8-1, in a home-and-home series. The eight goals were scored by eight different players.
